Research

28/02/14
Undertand / Define

I have done a lot of research on the three sites to try and understand the buildings and potentially reveal some interesting unique things about each.

I have also gone out and taken photos of two of the sites, unfortunately I have been unable to take any of the Meridian Building yet.

Idea

26/02/14
Understand / Define / Ideate

After more research I decided that sculptures were harder to find secondary communication points that people would actually care about.

I have now decided to go with architecture, my sites are the Dominion Museum, The New Dowse and the Meridian Building. Each have different uses, were built in different times, have different styles, use different materials etc etc so I will have a lot to work with.

Week 1, Session 2 // Research and Blog

25/02/14
Understand / Define / Ideate

Today, after a bit more brainstorming and some research I decided that the best ideas were either architecture or sculptures.

Eventually I picked my destination set as sculptures around Wellington and started to do research.

I decided to go with wind orientated sculptures to reflect Wellington. I have picked the Falling Man on the waterfront (leaning forward over the edge, but held up by wind), the Zephyrometer (a massive wind needle) and the Wellington sign (the Hollywood look-a-like that looks like it is being swept away by the wind. All are different sizes and have different artists.

We also attended a blogger workshop to be introduced to using a blog.

Basic Objective

24/02/14
Understand / Define

I have simplified the brief to get a better understanding of what I need to do and to make it simpler to think about:

In 2013 Prime Minister John Key described Wellington as a 'dying city'. Your task is to design a 12 page brochure that promotes a set of three linked destinations or activities within the Greater Wellington region. You will highlight the merits of your choice and provide extra information in order to get more people to go there.

Week 1, Session 1 // Brief and Brainstorming Ideas

24/02/14
Understand / Ideate

In class today we read through and talked about the brief to understand what we needed to do and brainstormed ideas for our activity/destination set. I filled out a table for a sculptures, architecture and waterfront activities.
